Some Important Stuff

Here is a post with multiple mentions of me
=p
Including a picture of me trying to be sad... which just looks weird.

I was considering doing this.
I think I might be able to get enough. Or maybe do like a 20 day one. So let me know if you are interested!

Finally, I just read this and it kills me.
By no means am I anywhere near perfect at this, but it just hurts when someone doesn't even try!

Volunteer/Student Involvement: B/B Volunteers were actively involved at the tables and greeting students. Students led in the band, and handed out programs and pens as people entered. Still noticed that many student leaders had isolated themselves to the separate balcony. A few students, however, stepped up.
I am so glad we have other leaders that are stepping up. Frankly, if your not going to change for a least a little while after  the leadership conference, I don't know what to say.

Take Away From PDYM

One of the things I got from the conference, I was I need to spend more time with friends. Building them up, listening to them, and connecting with them. I was also thinking about how kurt defined Biblical Connections. I need to grow through my friends and see if my friendships have these attributes.
What am I gonna do:
Who: The people I gave  my cell number to at the conference, or people that already have it.
What:Txt/Call me
When:Whenever
Why:If you need me for anything.

Seriously, let me know if you need anything.

PDYM

The Good
The people
I met were awesome. I love how HSM purposely splits up friends so they are not in the same room. I love meeting new people. It was awesome being able to talk with the guys from my room. The reason I love this conference is because you get to meet people.

The (Planned) Activities
Every year, they do new stuff. Workshops, games, etc... All really sweet. One of the things I enjoyed the most was the friendship prayer walk. I did it with Cris Harper and, it was really, really good, definitely a highlight.

The Speakers
A majority of the speakers came from Saddleback this year. However, that didn't make the teaching any less interesting. The two that stuck out the most to me were Kurt's and Francis Chan's.

The Service Project
This was very interesting. It was alot harder than I expected.  I didn't have enough sleep, we didn't get the supplies we wanted, and we didn't start with a good plan. I am going to blog more on this later because I can't summarize it.

The Worship Through Music
Simply amazing, and one of the best parts of the conference. I love how talented our band is.

The Part That's Not Perfect
People
We didn't all stay at the same hotel and we had to be really quiet. Also, there was a couple people being flirtatious. I have nothing against that, and would have hit on some of the girls cause all of them were cute <_< but I just don't think that should be happening at a Leadership retreat.

This is just something personal, but I personally don't like having a really moving time of slow worship through music and then go right into dancing generation. It just kinda of ruins the moment for me. =/

That's all I got for now.

Off to ice my mouth,

PDYM SLC

So basically, this conference was awesome.
So many awesome moments.
I am going to try to capture some of the awesomeness...
Events

  • In-N-Out at Midnight.
The first night, we took Josh Griffin's van to go get In-N-Out at midnight. It was awesome.
  • Taco Bell at 1:30
After setting up the Refinery for the serve projects, we went to Taco Bell. Since we had 12 person van, we had such a big order that they actually made us go around and wait in the parking lot until the drive threw could finish our order.
  • Breakfast earlier than everyone else....
Except for the Rachel and Alyssa. Every morning, I would wake up and go get breakfast and eat with Rachel and Alyssa. Rachel had to go to P.E. and Alyssa just woke up early too. So that was enjoyable.

I'll post some more later.

I am leaving for the PDYM Student Leadership Conference in a few minutes.
While I am there, I will be blogging from my phone.
Ergo, it might be a little sloppy because I just do it by txt message.
Hopefully I will post some pictures.

Found this Quote On Josh Harris' blog

and really liked it.

True faith has nothing whatever of merit about it, and in the highest sense cannot be called 'a work'. It is but laying hold of a Savior's hand, leaning on a husband's arm and receiving a physician's medicine. It brings with it nothing to Christ but a sinful man's soul. It gives nothing, contributes nothing, pays nothing, performs nothing. It only receives, takes, accepts, grasps, and embraces the glorious gift of justification which Christ bestows, and by renewed daily acts enjoys that gift.
- J. C. Ryle, Old Paths, quoted in The Christian Life by Sinclair Ferguson

5 Things To Do at the PDYM Student Leadership Conference

 1.Meet Me
I try to meet new people every year, especially freshmen and sophomores. So if I don't get a chance to come up and meet you, come up and introduce yourself.
(PS-If you found my blog and are coming from out of state, make sure to meet me)
2.Meet Other People
My one of my regrets from the last two times I went is not meeting people from other churches. Branch out, there are so many people from different places. It's awesome.
3.Take and Keep Notes
I know that you probably take notes, but do you keep them? It's really fun to look back at them.
4.Have Fun!
This is a really fun experience, enjoy it
5.Immerse Yourself...
Throw yourself into learning. Don't worry about how cool you'll look or what people will think. This is an amazing opportunity, don't waste it.
*Bonus*
Buy a t-shirt and enjoy the refinery. It's amazing.

Interns...(and Staff)

It is really weird going through Jr High and High school at saddleback. Why? Because I've gotten to know so many interns and staff members. And when they leave, its just weird!

To think that Jr Highers don't know Stephen Perry, Puddles, or Mike Lovato...
High schoolers who don't know Brittany, Sean, or Doug Elliott...

Anyways, this post is in honor of all the staff and interns who have left a legacy on Wildside and HSM.

(Ir)rational Fear #1

When I go to the orthodontist, they always use those plier-esque things to cut off the wire. I'm always scared that they're gonna go too far down and cut my cheek...

Another reason my school is...

more awesomer than yours.

The website/program we do all our work on now has its own IM client. This means we can IM our classmates when we get board and want to procrastinate.

Got Bat?

So how many people like bats?
Not many...

But...
there is a way to "enjoy" bats...

All Credit goes to my neighbors...

Steps

  1. Get a crowd of friends.
  2. Get some marshmellows
  3. Wait for the swallows to leave
  4. Wait some more.
  5. Look for the bats
  6. Wait for them to fly near you.
  7. Start tossing the marshmellows into the air in front of them
  8. Watch them swoop down and attack them.
  9. RUN!
Please note:
A)DO NOT TRY TO HIT THE BATS! They come to you...
B)try throwing it lower and lower till they almost hit you. (Bonus points if you do this to a friends)
C)Remember to pick up after yourself.

HAVE FUN!!!

Another Blogger

So I just found Kyle Cleveland's blog.

Kyle was the first student I met in HSM. He was one of the key factors for me getting plugged in. After the PDYM Leadership conference, he invited me over to his house for a summer Bible study my freshmen year. That was one of the places I met some really good people. After going to college for a year and changing his name he came back as a summer intern.
I'm super stoked because he's one of my role models so you should read his blog here

Service Project: Laguna Beach Edition

We drove down to laguna beach to complete 3 tasks.

  1. Clean The Beach
  2. Pay For Part Of People's Parking
  3. Feed The Homeless
I was in a group with Jamie, Kyle Wilke, and Nick Toth.
I wish I could describe the intense stories and other stuff, but you can't really do that in writing.
Anyways, just imagine is as a mini-ensenada trip with people who spoke english.

I will however, give you the Top 5 Funniest Moments
5.Feeding the Birds with parts of a sandwich we didn't give away.
4. Watching Wilke get beat in chess (twice)
3.Meeting a lady who thought she had birthed Jesus twice and there was a monster in the abyss.
2.having the old guy who was playing Chess tell a "That's what she said joke."
1.Jeff Baker screaming at his bluetooth cause it wasn't doing the right thing.

All in all an awesome day.
